Captain Andre was born on the East Coast of South Africa and moved to the East Coast of America 27 years ago.

From a very young age growing up in the Wild Coast Region he can remember there were always a few essentials that accompanied him, no matter where he went in the world. A fishing rod was always on top of the list or at least a hand-line! Other essentials included a pair of binoculars, camera and some biltong. He fished the entire coast and most estuaries of South Africa and a few in Namibia and Mozambique which included fly fishing, near-shore, rock&surf and spearfishing. He also fished the interior waters for carp, yellow-fish, catfish and bass on artificial lure and fly and stalked rainbow and brown trout in the Drakensberg Mountains.

Moving to the east coast of USA in 1995 he was immediately introduced to inshore fishing on Little Saint Simons Island where he spent a year and a half fishing these pristine private waters.  Captain Andre was introduced to charter fishing by the legendary charter Captain Mark Noble from Saint Simons Island, GA. During this period he gained much more experience fishing Doboy Sound area and Grey's Reef almost daily. In 2002 he acquired his USCG captains license (he obtained his South African Skippers License in 1987).

Between 1995 and 2004 Captain Andre also traveled the USA extensively and visited every state except Alaska making sure to dip a line, pitch a tent and add a bird to his life list in every one.  He traveled, fished and dived the west coast of the Americas for lingcod and abalone in Mendocino County in the north and rooster fish and lobster as far as Panama in the south.  On the east coast he fished for striped bass and huge bluefish in the surf on Martha's Vineyard and bonefish on fly down in Biscayne Bay, Florida.

Captain Andre moved to Wilmington in 2004 and has been fishing and diving the waters of the Cape Fear Region on an almost daily basis and now calls this beautiful area home.  He is United States Coast Guard certified and also a PADI Master Instructor, CPR Instructor, Oxygen Provider Instructor and has certified well over one thousand students in the Wilmington area. His fondest memories are of teaching the younger generation specifically the Wrightsville Beach Surf Camp kids.  Captain Andre also holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Stellenbosch.

Captain Andre was responsible for shore bird counts on the east coast (Wolf Island, GA) and continues to be part of the Project Feeder Watch and National Audubon Society. His life list for North and Central America is well over 650 species.
